Summer Founders is about a third of the way through its 11-week programming and has already provided participating student ventures with valuable lessons on their entrepreneurial journey. The Horn Entrepreneurship media team caught up with a few of the student founders to find out what insights they have gathered from the program so far.

Horn Entrepreneurship is pleased to announce all of the success and honors our fantastic community of creators, scientists and doers have accomplished this quarter.

Winners of the Hen Hatch competition were announced during its final round on Tuesday, April 30 at the Queen in Wilmington, Delaware.

Seven UD Students were honored with scholarships and awards from Horn Entrepreneurship for the 2018-2019 school year. The students will be formally recognized for their achievements at an award ceremony held during the final round of Hen Hatch, UD’s premier startup competition.

Vince DiFelice, Senior Instructor of Practice and Faculty Director of Venture Support, has been an instrumental figure in helping nascent student startups find their footing and future success. Beyond delivering exceptional venture support guidance, Vince has helped students find new passions and recalibrate their career goals to better match what they are most interested in.

Jason Aviles, the serial social entrepreneur behind such projects as FLYOGI and Artist Ave Station, as well as Project Director of Wilmington Green Box and Executive Director of Wilmington Placemakers Inc., is the current Social Entrepreneur in Residence at University of Delaware.

Each spring, Horn Entrepreneurship recognizes entrepreneurial students through awards and scholarships totaling almost $10,000 in cash and Venture Development Center credit. Undergraduate students from all majors are invited to apply now through Friday, March 29 at 11:59 p.m.

This year’s University of Delaware Horn Entrepreneurship spring pitch competition, Out of This World Pitch Party, will be held at the Venture Development Center from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 21. Any undergraduate student is allowed to pitch and any student, faculty or staff may attend. The event is free, although registration is required to pitch or attend. Spots are limited to pitch and spectate, and are filled on a first come, first served basis.

Social entrepreneurship is the new wave of creating socially impactful value from entrepreneurial ventures. Famous social ventures, like Toms and Warby Parker, have become immensely popular with the Millennial generation, both in sales and in career aspirations: Millennials want to make a meaningful impact at work.
