During summer 2025, students from the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics discovered new avenues for professional preparation and practical hands-on experience. Lerner College students pursued an array of internships, externships and other professional development opportunities. From MBA scholars to undergraduates entering their second year at UD, students across a spectrum of Lerner programs shared their experiences accomplishing an assortment of projects.

Meet Brian Mahon (BS in Entrepreneurship & Technology Innovation, Class of 2017), better known as Cyber Guy Bri, and founder of Igloo Insurance, a modern independent agency specializing in cyber, business, and personal insurance. With a career built on entrepreneurial grit, digital marketing savvy, and a bold leap into thought leadership, Brian shares what inspired him to launch Igloo and why reinvention can be a powerful tool for building a business that’s cool, credible, and completely his own.

In the US, there are currently thousands of incarcerated students attempting to gain an education, yet their environments lack the needed resources to effectively facilitate learning. Working feverishly to solve that issue is Sia Precision Education, a software development company that uses artificial intelligence to improve education for students in low-resource settings. Acting as their Chief Business Officer is Carlos Benito, a senior at the University of Delaware and an avid member of the Horn Entrepreneurship community.

Grace Fritz, Class of 2023 operations management and marketing double major with a minor in entrepreneurship, spent her summer interning as a marketing intern at the World Trade Center Institute.

Milestones can be celebrated as a measure of accomplishment. For the Horn Entrepreneurship Summer Founders, they have reached an important one of being at the halfway point.

Individual progress is dependent on their biggest challenge of “getting out of the building” to meet potential customers and learn how valuable their startup solution is, or how it could be appreciated even more. By this measure, they have collectively made 442 visits, in-person locally or somewhere in the USA, virtually. The best personal growth measure is what they each find from one another. The pre-accelerator program is designed to collaborate and that is why on a daily basis, they work together to advance each other's product potential.

Horn Entrepreneurship is excited to announce the “Advancing Equity Thru Entrepreneurship Summer Internship Challenge.” This new program seeks to provide funding and mentorship support to UD undergraduate students who are actively working to advance social justice and equality of opportunity.

George Munyua earned a bachelor of science degree in entrepreneurship and technology innovation from the University of Delaware in 2019, followed by a master of science in executive technology management from Columbia University, due in 2020. At UD, he was a member of the Lerner International Students Association.
