Each spring, Horn Entrepreneurship recognizes entrepreneurial students through awards and scholarships totaling almost $10,000 in cash and Venture Development Center credit. Undergraduate students from all majors are invited to apply now through Friday, March 29 at 11:59 p.m.

Twelve teams from the student track and another 12 teams from the alumni, faculty and staff track are advancing to the semifinal round of the University of Delaware’s 2019 Hen Hatch startup funding competition. 

The upcoming Horn Entrepreneurship Out of This World Pitch Party will be held at 132 E. Delaware Ave. from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 21. Any undergraduate student is allowed to pitch and any student, faculty or staff may attend. The event is free, although registration is required to pitch or attend. Spots are limited to pitch and spectate, and are filled on a first come, first served basis.

Horn Entrepreneurship’s Vincent Di Felice, Manager of Venture Support, has been awarded a primary appointment as Senior Instructor of Practice and a secondary appointment of Faculty Director of Venture Support in the Department of Business Administration in the Lerner College of Business and Economics.

The spring semester is a busy time for Horn Entrepreneurship with many signature program offerings available over the coming months. Hen Hatch finals will be at The Queen in April, VentureOn, our in-semester venture support program, is in full swing and Summer Founders, our full-service pre-accelerator, is accepting students on a rolling basis. The sheer amount of opportunities can be slightly overwhelming, so the Horn Entrepreneurship media team sat down with some of the community’s most fervent doers to ask them, well, just how they do so much.

Brandon Holly, College of Health Sciences, Class of 2021, began his college career as a Nursing major, but quickly found himself trying to get more from his college experience. A simple conversation impacted Brandon’s college journey significantly and brought him clarity and confidence in how to help people through his medical career goals.

Jason Bamford recognized a need for a more immersive experience in entrepreneurial education at the University of Delaware and three months after a compelling conversation with Vince DiFelice, the Horn Entrepreneurship Summer Founders pre-accelerator program was born.

Ahad Behboodi and his advisor, Dr. Samuel Lee, of DEAFO, recently participated in the University of Delaware I-Corps Site program with a new lightweight soft ankle-foot orthosis device that is intended to treat children with Cerebral Palsy. Through the I-Corps Site program, Behboodi and his team connected with the Horn Entrepreneurship community of entrepreneurs and creators while also learning about business models and customer discovery, the entrepreneurial method to determine the best problem-solution fit.

Social entrepreneurship is the new wave of creating socially impactful value from entrepreneurial ventures. Famous social ventures, like Toms and Warby Parker, have become immensely popular with the Millennial generation, both in sales and in career aspirations: Millennials want to make a meaningful impact at work.
