Embracing Change: A Jaime-of-All-Trades Story

2025 Jaime Lee portrait

No two days look the same for Horn team member Jaime Lee and that’s exactly what makes the work so exciting for her. With a background in biomedical engineering and a career path that’s anything but traditional, she’s embraced change at every turn. In this Q&A, Jaime shares insights on her journey, passions, and the unexpected experiences that have shaped her path.

What is your professional and academic background?

I have an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering and initially pursued a Ph.D. before deciding to enter the workforce. My first job was at a medical device manufacturer, where I spent four years—starting in the engineering group before transitioning to the regulatory department. After spending the pandemic at home full-time with my two kids, I found my way to Horn in mid-2021, where I’ve been ever since.

What made you get into this line of work and what inspires you to keep working hard?

I’d say I found my way to Horn—and this career field—somewhat by accident. As I was exploring my next career move, I knew my resume was eclectic, and finding something that aligned with both my interests and skill set might be a challenge. When I came across Horn and met with Dan Freeman, I was struck by how much the organization values and celebrates non-traditional career paths. I realized that my unconventional background wasn’t a drawback but actually a great fit for Horn’s unique approach, which made the decision to join an easy one.

What do you enjoy most about working here?

What I love most about being part of Horn is the variety—no two days are ever the same. One day, I might be supporting a youth pitch event, and the next, I’m refinishing office furniture or replacing water filters. There’s always something new to tackle, which keeps things exciting and engaging for me.

What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of work? OR What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Just like my work responsibilities, my hobbies are all over the place! I enjoy reading and doing puzzles, running and exercising, hiking and exploring new places, as well as refinishing furniture and tackling DIY house projects. My Horn teammates like to call me a Jack-of-all-trades, but I’m working on rebranding myself as the Jaime-of-all-trades!

Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most people here might not know?

I accidentally attended the funeral for the Queen of England! Also, it might not come as a surprise, but I love a good spreadsheet. Whether it’s a Christmas card mailing list, a summer camp schedule, or a vacation itinerary complete with budget and packing list—if it can be organized in a spreadsheet, I’ve probably done it!

Is there anything else you want readers to know?

Make plans and set goals, but hold them loosely. Be open to adjusting as circumstances and priorities shift—because they will change. Embrace the change. One of my favorite song lyrics says it best: “Healthy things grow, and growing things change.”
