Emily Paget, a junior majoring in Entrepreneurship with a minor in Advertising hailing from Smithtown, a close-knit community on Long Island, New York, is the November 2023 Horn Hen of the Month. Emily values the well-rounded nature of the Entrepreneurship major, viewing the ENTR major as a gateway to diverse opportunities and internships aligning with her personal and career goals. Being a Blue Hen and a part of the Horn community has significantly shaped her journey, providing a tight-knit family within the larger university.

Emily's entrepreneurial spirit ignited during high school as she was the New York State DECA winner for an original business plan. Being a part of DECA and competing in the program's competitive events allowed her to learn valuable skills and embark on the path of an entrepreneurial mindset. Emily is deeply involved in various programs at UD and Horn that contribute to her personal and professional growth, from participating in VDC Community Sessions and E-Club to securing a notable third place in the Pitch Party. Additionally, she serves as a Teaching Assistant for BUAD110 and Social Chair for Phi Chi Theta, a co-ed Business & Economics Fraternity where she plans events to foster a sense of community within the fraternity. Identifying as a social entrepreneur, Emily finds joy in helping others. Her current notable entrepreneurial endeavor is Commit, a browser extension that helps businesses set and track sustainability goals and allows consumers to see if a company is sustainable, a project she co-founded with Hunter Wills.

Describing the Horn community in one word, Emily chose "creativity." She appreciates how everyone is consistently working on diverse and interesting ventures, progressing differently with new projects and pushing the boundaries of innovation. In the Horn community, Emily turns to her peers for advice and mentorship. The diverse approaches her fellow students bring to entrepreneurship offer valuable insights, creating a supportive network that fuels her own entrepreneurial journey.

As a piece of advice to incoming freshmen, Emily shares, "Don't let the time pass you by—'I was a freshman 20 minutes ago’”. Encouraging students to seize every moment, she emphasizes that time is precious and it is important to make the most of your college experience.

Emily Paget exemplifies the spirit of innovation, collaboration, and optimism that defines the Horn community. Her entrepreneurial endeavors and commitment to creating positive change make her a deserving recipient of the Horn Hen of the Month title. Congratulations, Emily!
