
One feature of the second annual Blue Hen Innovation Fest was the Big Ideas Challenge, where interdisciplinary teams “translate research into business ideas,” Dr. Tomé Salgueiro, Assistant Professor of Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship, said before announcing the winning teams.
More than 20 teams exhibited at the STAR Campus event, and there were two recurring elements: work combatting sea-level rise and using games to teach multiple concepts.
Eco Track
In the eco track, Island Rescuers won $500. The team is Carter Hoatson, Ifeanyi Chukwu, Ashlyn Almeida and Elyssa DeFranco.

Soils Squad won $250. The team is Will Manns, Matt Randolph and Emily Fasig.

Health Track
In the health track, Luck of the Irish won $500. Luck of the Irish is the project by Rose Trupia.

Healthcare Vending Machine won $250. The team is Kalisa Chambers, Charlotte Rotter, Erin McCarthy, Jared Martin Ramos and Alannah Crozier.

Guided by the vital conditions framework, the Big Ideas Challenge program brings together interdisciplinary teams to conduct user-centered research, engage in design-thinking, and pursue the development of innovative solutions to promote conditions for the optimal health, well-being and thriving of all people.
