For October, Xen K. Bossard has won the Horn Hen Of The Month award. Xen is currently a sophomore, majoring in Finance and English with a minor in Entrepreneurship. His involvement in the Delaware Innovation Fellows adds another dimension to his diverse interests. Xen has worked at The Tutoring Center since 2019 as Head Instructor, where he works with over 100 students in Math and English from ages 4 to 18. Within this role, he helps run the SAT prep program and trains the other instructors on academic instruction goals. The Tutoring Center is just like the type of business that Xen would like to own one day. Xen envisions owning a business focused on helping children learn English. His passion for education and assisting kids, coupled with his understanding of finance and language, forms the foundation of his entrepreneurial aspirations.
Xen's entrepreneurial journey started in middle school, where he sold water bottles at after-school activities to earn money for snacks or lunch. This early experience started his entrepreneurial drive, building the foundation that brought him into the Horn Entrepreneurship community. Xen actively participates in various programs and clubs at UD and Horn including as a volunteer for E-Club’s Free Lunch Friday. He helps with the setup and clean-up process, but most people will recognize Xen for his welcoming hospitality and smile at the door for check-in. He likes volunteering as it allows him to meet the speakers more personally, not just as a student, and gives him the opportunity to provide value in multiple ways.
Entrepreneurship has always intrigued Xen. He likes the idea of helping the community from the avenue of business ownership, as well as the varied experiences and opportunities to meet new people it provides. Regarding his entrepreneurial style, Xen considers himself an "intrapreneur," constantly seeking innovative ways to improve existing systems. He aims to disrupt the ratio of certified instructors to students within teaching English as a second language programs, ensuring better access to quality education.
When asked to describe the Horn community in one phrase, Xen chose "leading by example”. He emphasized the impact of many individuals whom he relies on for their insights. Jimmy Donaldson, popularly known as Mr. Beast, stands as Xen's primary entrepreneurial inspiration, as he admires Mr. Beast's commitment to helping others and aims to emulate this generosity through his ventures. To incoming freshmen, Xen advises approaching college with an open mind, free from preconceived biases. Congratulations to Xen Bossard for being recognized as the "Horn Hen of the Month" and for his exceptional contributions to the Horn community!
