“I bet you twenty bucks I can beat you in this game.” Playing video games and involving money in the equation is a situation which tends to occur regularly among gamers. Alex Pickett and Dan Goodman had a goal to create a platform where gamers can play for money. 

In the US, there are currently thousands of incarcerated students attempting to gain an education, yet their environments lack the needed resources to effectively facilitate learning. Working feverishly to solve that issue is Sia Precision Education, a software development company that uses artificial intelligence to improve education for students in low-resource settings. Acting as their Chief Business Officer is Carlos Benito, a senior at the University of Delaware and an avid member of the Horn Entrepreneurship community.

Like a connoisseur of fine art, Christina Pellicane both understands and enjoys the details, technique and principles of commercialization. She’s spent most of her career on just that - making an impact through innovation. Her work is reminiscent of a Jackson Pollock painting - drips and splashes dotting the canvas - it is purposeful and groundbreaking.

Once a molecular biology major, Lynn Roberts’ academic journey and interests took a drastic turn from science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) when she delved deeper into the University of Delaware’s Horn Entrepreneurship.

It all starts with a desire to make. With no experience required, students from the Red Clay Consolidated School District were given the opportunity to be involved in a one-week program to delve into their entrepreneurial nature.

The Innovative Delaware Educator Awards celebrate the contributions of high school educators towards creating an environment for students to grow their entrepreneurial skills. Horn Entrepreneurship values the work of educational professionals and looks to support them in creating innovative opportunities for Delaware students. Each of the awards provides a mini-grant of up to $500 to be used towards an innovative project at their school. The projects will be executed over the course of the 2021 Fall semester in and out of the classroom through strategically implemented clubs and other programs.

As a biomedical engineer, Ariel Hannum’s foremost mission has always been to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Having recently graduated from her honors program at the University of Delaware, Hannum, CE20, has dedicated most of her time as an undergraduate to contributing to healthcare innovations in imaging technology.

University of Delaware Horn Entrepreneurship welcomes its largest cohort of students to Summer Founders 2020. Twenty-two startup teams totaling 34 students are participating in the 12-week virtual pre-accelerator in which they receive mentorship, education and resources to develop and advance their concepts.

This past winter, Nico Repollé flew out to Urbana, InterVarsity’s global leadership conference in Saint Louis, Missouri, on a mission to build his faith, relationships and potentially secure a summer internship. Now the Entrepreneurship major, Class of 2021, has traveled to Hawaii and Fiji and served as a mentor to young adults and teenagers, finding his purpose along the way to help bring social impact change to communities around him. 

James Massaquoi, a co-founder of 360VR Technology and finalist at Hen Hatch 2019, served as a Global Business Operations intern for Google this past summer. James, College of Arts & Sciences, Class of 2020, was hesitant to leave Delaware and his fellow co-founder, Sury Gupta, alone to work through the Summer Founders program, but enjoyed a relaxing summer filled with insights that has the young entrepreneur eager to continue striving to create unique value.
