A 2025 University of Delaware graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication—and a certificate in Professional Photography from Argentina—Rubione transitioned from a student technician role to leading Horn’s multimedia presence as the Media Production Coordinator. Now in her first year as a full-time staff member, she is the creative force documenting the evolution of UD’s aspiring innovators.
When she isn't behind the lens at the Venture Development Center (VDC), you might find Lourdes hunting for vintage treasures at local antique shops, binging movies, or scrapbooking. Keep reading to explore her favorite Horn memories, her creative roots, and the unique collections she fills her free time with.
Tell us a bit about your role and responsibilities at Horn as a Media Production Coordinator.
As the Media Production Coordinator, I lead our end-to-end multimedia production. I oversee video and photography content in addition to collaborating on some social media content. I guide these projects from the creative brief all the way through institutional approval.
It’s been an amazing first year. I actually achieved an institutional first by producing the only video approved by UD’s Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM) for official university web publication! Right now, I’m split between two worlds I love: video production in my role at Horn, and diving deep into my passion for graphic design to create the new look for the Summer Founders 2026 campaign.
What do you enjoy most about working here?
First and foremost, it’s the people. Everyone was incredibly welcoming, open to collaboration, and deeply supportive right from day one—it honestly felt like we'd been working together far longer than we had. The team celebrates your accomplishments and takes the time to guide you along your career path. I love that I have a collaborative team to lean on for feedback, but I’m also given the independence to run with my creative vision.
If I had to describe the atmosphere at Horn in a few words, they would be: Innovative, Creative, Homey, Motivational, and Efficient.
Can you share a memorable experience or project you've worked on?
I can’t pick just one; I have many that were really fun! Making the 'Meet the Faculty' lineup campaign was a blast. We had faculty members introduce themselves and their classes in the style of a Sunday Night Football lineup, complete with sports props. We turned it into a website video, multiple Instagram reels, and even posters for a pitch party.
Another major highlight was my first time working the Limitless World Summit (LWS). It was a much bigger event than I expected. It takes a full year of preparation, and I spent hours running around with a six-to-seven-pound camera and stabilizer setup. Getting to meet students from all over the globe, watching them pitch, and seeing their cultural performances made every second worth it.
What inspired you to pursue a career in visual communications?
I’ve been captivated by visuals and graphics since I was a kid. I used to collect clothing tags because they were much trendier back then. Both of my parents are incredibly creative—my mom is an architect who loves design, and my dad is very good at drawing—so it runs in the family. I initially thought I’d go into fashion design, but I pivoted to graphic design and Visual Communications to refine that skill set.
What drives me today is seeing the impact of my work on others. Through multimedia, I get to document and celebrate the incredible progress of our students as they move through Horn’s programs. Visual storytelling allows me to elevate their achievements and share their growth through every event Horn offers.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I’m a big movie person and I love period pieces or TV shows set in different eras. Right now, I’m really into scrapbooking, exploring small towns, and antiquing—sometimes with my dad, who loves the hunt as much as I do.
I’m also an avid collector! My current collections include postage stamps, thimbles, enamel pins, design books, pressed pennies, vintage cameras, wine labels, and carousel-related memorabilia. If there's an opportunity to start collecting a new tchotchke, I'll always take it.
Share a fun fact about yourself.
One of my favorite fun facts is that I was once interviewed by the Newark Local News channel for a segment on fall outfits. They had me hold a pumpkin the entire time I was talking, but to this day, I've never been able to track down the footage online. Also, I love languages. I currently speak Spanish, English, and Italian, and I'm hoping to tackle Hindi next.
What else do you want readers to know?
I am always open to collaborating, chatting, and communicating with students! There are so many incredible resources offered here that people should take advantage of—from VentureOn and community sessions to Free Lunch Fridays. Everyone is always welcome to come to the Venture Development Center (VDC) to get work done, meet the professors, and network. Come say hi!
