Individual Awards
Julie Frieswyk, Delaware Business Times 40 Honoree
Julie Frieswyk, Manager of Youth Programs at Horn Entrepreneurship and the lifeblood of the global high school entrepreneurship competition, Diamond Challenge, has been selected as a Delaware Business Times 40 Honoree. The award recognizes consistent professional excellence and strong community support in the Delaware business scene. Congratulations Julie!
Grant Awards
Cyber 20/20
Cyber 20/20, a networks security startup, has been selected by the Department of Homeland Security to receive a $200,000 grant to participate in Phase I of the Silicon Valley Innovation Program. Cyber 20/20 will use the grant money to improve securities solutions for financial institutions on home soil.
Device for the Capture of Circulating Tumor Cells
A Device for the Capture of Circulating Tumor Cells has been accepted as a finalist in the eleventh round of the Science Center’s QED Proof-of-Concept program.
Press-Flex Knee
Press-Flex Knee has been awarded a $5,000 grant from VentureWell to participate in Phase I of the E-teams program. The venture is working on developing a prosthetic knee for low-mobility lower-limb amputees to reduce the difficulty of sitting and standing and decrease the chance of falling.
RiKarbon
RiKarbon, a startup dedicated to providing more environmentally friendly alternatives to petroleum based products, has received an Entrepreneurial Proof of Concept grant of up to $50,000 to pursue early stage data collecting to operate in the state of Delaware. RiKarbon also received a Small Business Innovation Research Phase I grant of $150,000 from the Department of Energy to explore the feasibility of their concept. Additionally, the eco-friendly venture received a $50,000 National Science Foundation grant to participate in the national I-Corps Teams program in order to focus on customer discovery and problem-solution fit.
Sage Smart Garden
Sage Smart Garden was admitted into Phase II of the Summer E-Teams grant from VentureWell, receiving $20,000. The irrigation solutions outfit provides solar sensors on irrigation systems to provide more efficient watering practices.
TRiC Robotics
TRiC Robotics received a $50,000 Entrepreneurial Proof of Concept grant to pursue early stage data collecting activities to operate a business within Delaware. TRiC Robotics provides affordable and advanced robotics for police and special emergency services.
Startup Awards
Metta Creative
Davis Pfund, Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, Class of 2019, and Metta Creative have been selected to participate in the Y Combinator Startup School. The online startup support program aims to provide founders the motivation and knowledge to positively impact the world through entrepreneurship.
