## Bridging the Gap in Clinical Trials: Meet Sury Gupta

by [Ryan Shore](https://horn.udel.edu/author/ryan-shore) • October 19, 2026

![Sury Gupta-1](https://horn.udel.edu/hs-fs/hubfs/Canva%20images/Sury%20Gupta-1.png?width=821&height=430&name=Sury%20Gupta-1.png)Sury Gupta's journey as an entrepreneur began with a passion for problem-solving and a drive to leverage technology for meaningful impact. From winning student startup competitions on campus to innovating in healthcare technology, Gupta is now tackling a new path in medical research as the co-founder and CTO of Trial IQ.

Gupta, a University of Delaware alumnus, built his technical foundation while deeply engaging with campus innovation. Involved with [Horn Entrepreneurship](https://www.udel.edu/research-innovation/horn/) since his freshman year, he previously founded [360VR Technology](https://technical.ly/company/360vr-technology/), a venture that provided emergency building information for first responders and won Hen Hatch in 2019. Following graduation and professional experience in healthcare software at [Innovative Precision Health](https://www.iph.ai/), Gupta recognized an industry-wide gap in clinical trial accessibility, ultimately leading to the creation of Trial IQ.

## **What inspired Trial IQ?**

Working in healthcare data and clinical trial consulting revealed a major disconnect in the medical research landscape. Clinical trials are typically restricted to academic or large hospital systems, while the majority of patients receive their care in overworked community practices and infusion centers that lack the resources to conduct research.

While sponsors and pharma companies spend massive amounts of money trying to find and access patients through traditional methods like Facebook marketing and paper recruitment, community doctors—who know their patients best—are left out of the loop. Trial IQ acts as the enablement layer, bridging this gap by integrating software directly into community practices. Instead of hearing about a clinical trial from a social media ad, patients learn about experimental care and trials directly from their point-of-care providers, particularly helping sensitive populations with chronic, rare, or incurable diseases find life-changing options.

## **What changed when transitioning from college startups to a healthcare enterprise?**

Working on a startup back in college laid the original, simplistic foundation compared to how I scale my healthcare venture today. While my early student ventures faced sudden pivots and eventual wind-downs due to my graduation and the COVID-19 pandemic, my challenges now involve navigating high-stakes environments, working long hours, and meeting complex industry needs.

Transitioning straight from my computer science background into healthcare required me to rapidly build industry maturity. My early professional experience in evidence collection software, consolidating cognitive exams, and managing patient-reported outcomes for physicians gave me the exact foundation I needed to understand how to build sustainable health tech. Today, co-leading Trial IQ means I dedicate six to seven days a week to scaling our software, establishing major industry partnerships, and preparing for our upcoming Series A raise next year.

## **How do you balance mission and sustainability?**

For me, the focus has shifted away from personal financial outcomes toward building a product that truly matters for patients, employees, and our partners.. Sustainable growth means ensuring that technology serves as a reliable support system to make clinical trials efficient without losing sight of human impact.

By streamlining patient identification and recruitment through trusted physician relationships, our platform aims to make clinical research frictionless. The ultimate goal is to create scalable infrastructure that empowers community clinics while helping patients access treatments they would have never discovered otherwise.

## **What has been your proudest moment?**

My proudest moment is realizing the massive scale of impact Trial IQ can achieve across the entire healthcare industry. Beyond enterprise growth and strategic partnerships, my true driving force is knowing that our technology has the potential to save lives. Whether it is ensuring a patient battling an incurable disease gains access to an experimental treatment or helping physicians make informed decisions, applying my technical skills to create life-changing options is what makes the demanding hours worth it.

## **How did Horn support your founder journey?**

Horn Entrepreneurship provided me with the essential framework I needed to shift from a solution-oriented engineer to a problem-oriented entrepreneur. My engineering mindset used to push me to build products without talking to enough people, risking wasted time on solutions nobody actually wanted.

Horn taught me the value of deep problem-finding, derisking, exploring, and validating my ideas before investing capital. Furthermore, the academic and mentorship environment at UD opened doors to critical industry connections for me, including the introduction to a professor who originally sparked my entry into the healthcare software space.

## **What advice would you give students?**

Entrepreneurship has been a powerful catalyst for me to take control of my future and develop the exact skills that companies and industries actively look for. Being inquisitive, scrappy, and adaptable are the traits I’ve found to be valued above all else, simply because the real-world startups I've built rarely come with a playbook.

What I would tell students is to leverage their status to talk to professionals and industry experts, because I've learned that people are almost always willing to help students who take a genuine interest in solving real problems. Whether launching a company or entering the workforce, learning how to isolate problems and build solutions has given me an invaluable edge for the rest of my career.

For Sury, entrepreneurship has evolved from building technology as a student to addressing complex challenges within healthcare. His experience with Trial IQ also reflects lessons that began at UD: understand the problem before building the solution, listen to the people experiencing it and be willing to adapt as you learn.
