Apply Now for Entrepreneurship Awards & Scholarships

Horn Entrepreneurship recognizes entrepreneurial students through awards and scholarships totaling almost $10,000 in cash and Venture Development Center credit. Undergraduate students from all majors are invited to apply now through Sunday, April 10, 2022 at 11:59 p.m.

Students may use one application to apply to all of the awards, but please note that a separate essay is required for each. Students may not apply for an award they have previously won. 

Award recipients will be notified via email by mid-April and will be honored during the Spring Horn Entrepreneurship National Advisory Board meeting on April 22.

Shawn & Sheryl McCall Award for Entrepreneurship - $2500

Two McCall Awards for Entrepreneurship are granted to undergraduate students from any UD college, in any major, who show entrepreneurial promise.

To be considered, submit an application with the “Shawn & Sheryl McCall Award” checkbox selected and provide a brief essay describing your entrepreneurial aspirations. Your name and “Shawn & Sheryl McCall Award Application” must be included in the header of your essay.

Brad & Jennifer Bono Award - $2000

The Brad and Jennifer Bono Award is granted to an undergraduate student from any UD college, in any major, who demonstrates entrepreneurial leadership and social impact.  

To be considered, submit an application with the “Brad & Jennifer Bono Award” checkbox selected and provide a brief essay describing how you’ve demonstrated entrepreneurial leadership and social impact. Your name and “Brad & Jennifer Bono Award Application” must be included in the header of your essay.

Horn Entrepreneurship Award - $1500

The Horn Entrepreneurship Award is funded by annual gifts from the faculty who teach ENTR-designated courses. The award is granted to a student from any UD college or degree program who has taken at least one ENTR course, demonstrates exemplary entrepreneurial promise and will realize an immediate benefit from the receipt of the $1500 award. The Horn Entrepreneurship Award is intended to be used for the pursuit of a specific new venture or educational opportunity related to creativity, entrepreneurship, innovation or leadership.

To be considered, submit an application with the “Horn Entrepreneurship Award” checkbox selected and provide a brief essay describing how you have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and how you would plan to put the funding associated with the award to immediate use. Your name and “Horn Entrepreneurship Award Application” must be included in the header of your essay.

David J. Freschman Scholarship - $4000

The David J. Freschman Scholarship fund was established in memory of David J. Freschman, University of Delaware alumnus, entrepreneur and venture capitalist.

Freschman scholarships are awarded during Fall semester each year to one full-time, undergraduate student who will be enrolled during the academic year and:

  1. a) Has demonstrated financial need;
  2. b) Has demonstrated potential to become a successful entrepreneur;
  3. c) Possesses some combination of the qualities and personal characteristics that David possessed, valued and encouraged: energy, enthusiasm, determination, sales acumen, financial ability and good judgment;
  4. d) Has exhibited some level of the above qualities through prior work experience, academic achievement or extracurricular activities.

To be considered, submit an application with the “David Freschman Scholarship” checkbox selected and provide a brief essay explaining how you possess the qualities, characteristics and experience referenced above. Your name and “David Freschman Scholarship Application” must be included in the header of your essay.
